The Barn
Every one of these barns starts as a fully welded steel tube frame — not bolted-together tubing and not wood. The bottom main beam is 4×3 at 3/16″ wall thickness, with 10-gauge truss members and 14-gauge framing throughout. Metal roof, metal siding, and the option of a woodgrain barnwood plank panel if you want the look of timber without the maintenance.
The barn is manufactured as two separate 17′ sections and stitched together on site by our install team. That is what lets us deliver a full 34′-wide barn to your property in a couple of days instead of framing it up over a month of good weather.
Inside, a center breezeway runs the full length with sliding barn doors on both ends. Stalls run down the sides — 11′×11′ each, opening to the breezeway through a sliding stall front and to the outside through a custom-built metal dutch door. Add a floored, insulated tack room and you have a barn you can actually work out of in February.

Layout
Both sizes share the same 34′ width. The length determines how many stalls you get. Room positions can be adjusted — call and we’ll lay it out with you.

4×3 bottom main beam at 3/16″ wall. 10-gauge 2×3 truss members and front purlins. 14-gauge 2×3 everywhere else. Welded, not bolted.
Runs the full length of the barn with sliding barn doors on both ends. Pull a trailer through, tack up out of the wind, work under cover.
Sliding stall front opening into the breezeway, plus a custom-built metal dutch door to the outside so horses can be turned out directly.

Upgrade
If you want the barn to look like it has been sitting in the coulee for eighty years without any of the rot, the woodgrain metal panel is the way to do it. Same 26-gauge steel, printed in an antique barnwood plank finish that shrugs off Montana UV and hail far better than real timber. It is a straight siding swap — frame, doors, stalls and layout are identical to the standard barn.

Before we deliver
The single biggest factor in a clean install is the pad. Our recommended minimum is a 3″ thick compacted gravel pad using 3/4″ road mix, laser leveled to within 1″, with an extra 12″ of pad on all four sides of the barn footprint.
Concrete footers are better. If you are planning to be in this barn for thirty years, pour footers. If you want to be turning horses out next month, a properly compacted gravel pad will do the job.
Once the pad is ready, our crew sets both sections, stitches them together, hangs the doors and anchors the corners down. Talk to us before you break ground — we will give you the exact footprint for your configuration.

This one is already built and sitting on the lot. It is a working calving barn — heavy duty bull gates forming pens down both sides, a sorting alley, and a Powder River S-1500 self-catch head gate at the end of it. Two split gates at the head catch let suckling calves through. Sliding doors on both gable ends, transparent light panels along the eave, and drip stop applied to the roofing and the siding.

Straight talk: this one was built for calving, not for horses. The bull gates and head gate are cattle equipment, and the pen layout is not how we would spec a horse barn from scratch. It can be run as a horse barn, and gates can come out. The upside is that it is already built — no six-week wait.

Montana Structures LLC stands behind its workmanship with an industry-leading 10-year manufacturer’s defect warranty. If a part or component turns out to be defective in materials or workmanship inside that window, they repair or replace it — labor and materials included, at your location.
The warranty asks that you report a defect within 30 days of identifying it, so a small problem does not get the chance to become a big one. Not really, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something that will not hold. To paint the frame properly it would need to be sandblasted first, and that is not part of the build process. Paint applied over mill scale will flake off and you will have spent money for nothing.
Yes. Every barn carries an industry-leading 10-year manufacturer’s defect warranty from Montana Structures LLC covering defects in materials and workmanship. If something is defective inside that window they will repair or replace the part — labor and materials included — provided the defect is reported within 30 days of you noticing it. 48′ is the longest. Width is 34′, made up of two 17′-wide sections that get stitched together on site. If you need something bigger than the standard 34×24 or 34×36, call for pricing.
We can consider eave-side and low-side overhangs, but they are site specific and require a very level pad. Call and describe your site — we will tell you honestly whether it will work and what it costs.
We do not publish an engineered wind or snow load rating for these barns. What we can tell you is that Montana Structures has built very large facilities with this same frame system and has never had one come down.
If your county requires a stamped engineering letter for a permit, tell us before you order so we can figure out whether that is something we can get for your site.
Yes. There are two ways to do it. The standard and easiest is the stake holes built into each corner of the frame — that covers most sites.
The upgrade sets concrete at the base of the building around the steel frame, tying the barn to the ground. That is the one to look at for exposed or windy locations. Call (877) 511-9378 and we will walk you through how it is done and what it adds.
Drip stop is a felt membrane bonded to the underside of the roof panels. When warm, moist air inside the barn hits cold steel, you get condensation — and without drip stop that condensation runs off the roof onto your horses, your hay and your tack. The felt absorbs it as it forms and releases it back into the air as the day warms up.
It is an upgrade on any barn, and our in-stock 34×48 already has it. In a Montana climate it is worth asking about. Call for drip stop pricing.
